[The rat does sniff at the offered hand before jumping to climb up Martin's arm.]

Uh. Yeah? Who else would I be talking to?

[ Cute. Martin reaches down to pet its little head. ]

I mean, most people where I come from don’t talk to rats. Or talk about magic at all.

[ Martin sighs a bit and leans on the back of that threadbare armchair. ]

Who are you, anyway?

[Meanwhile, he's sorting to some of the rats, dolling out some of the food they brought. Gotta share, all of you.

But that question. He looks up at Martin in disbelief.]

You- You don't know me? Really?

[ Does this blank face look like he knows you. ]

Absolutely not. Should I?

Wow...

[He pets at another rat on his shoulder, but he's hunching in on himself a bit. Nervous, this guy is the definition of nervous.]

You are... really not from around here. Everyone knows who I am.

[ Gosh. Maybe it’s his looks, but Martin is abruptly feeling a lot of sympathy for this poor nervous man. He gives him a gentle smile. ]

Well, I’m not from around here, and I don’t know who you are. Would you mind telling me?

Uh.

[He hesitates, just wandering the room a bit, setting one of the rats onto a barrel]

I'm Bruno. Of the family Madrigal, the family who lives here. Out there. Abuela Alma has been leading the village out there since we found this place.

Well, it’s nice to meet you, Bruno. My name’s Martin Sims.

[This man is all nervous energy, the way he keeps circling the room, twitching and hunching, picking things up, putting them down, still widely gesturing with his hands while he talks.]

I'd say it's nice to meet you, but it's uh. It's still weird? Still have no idea how you appeared here which means you probably have no idea how to get out. Not that you gotta leave right away or anything, it's just, y'know, it's good to know?

[ Gosh he reminds Martin SO MUCH of Jon. Just. Nervous? Twitchy? Like himself?

Agreed on all points. Though I have some hope I’ll simply disappear once whatever’s going on burns itself out.

Burns itself out, there's a thought. Don't even know what it is and- I mean, if I could find a place I could look, but I really don't want to, don't do it anymore, no good. No good, nothing good would come from that so don't even think about it.

[Yeah this is a guy who got really used to talking to himself. From the looks of it, it's been well over a decade.]

Why do you think you'll just disappear? Do you know what it is?

[ Poor Bruno. The more Martin sees, the more sympathetic he is. ]

No, I have no idea, b-but I’m currently living in a place that pulled me in, and if I were to get shoved home, it would look like I disappeared randomly.

[ A beat. ]

What did you mean about looking?

[He shakes his head, some of it ringing familiar. Some vision he had ages ago coming to the surface, but still feels like a dream.]

My gift, um. I-i see visions, but they're no good. Nobody liked 'em, they're garbage, so I stopped doing them.

[ Oh. OH.

Martin’s eyes go wide at that. ]

Visions? Of - what?

[He shrugs, shoulders up by his ears.]

The future. Literally nobody liked it though. Better I stay here.

Yeah? Y-yeah, I mean, besides seeing you right here in front of me which is still weird by the way.

No, I mean. Magical. Seeing. If that makes sense?

Uuhhhhh then yeah, no, the future's all I see like that. Or, it used to be.

Used to be? Did you. Stop?

Yeah, I- uhm. I stopped. Years ago, long time ago. Nobody liked them, they were never any good.

[ Martin immediately looks alarmed, sweeping his eyes up and down Bruno’s malnourished frame. ]

You just stopped. Did - did you start feeling sick afterwards?
