[ He opens his mouth to protest but.

But whatever's happening can probably wait until morning, so he nods. ]

All right. In the morning.

[ He's not moving. ]

[He nods. A little too tired to really protest Martin not moving. He just settles in where he is, some of the rats coming to curl up with them as well.]

[ The. The rats are a BIT much for Martin, but he takes in a deep breath and doesn't fuss.

If anything, he's asleep that much quicker with Bruno tucked safely in his arms. ]

[At least they're small and unobtrusive? Mostly there to comfort him.

But he doesn't seem to have any worse dreams the rest of the night. A little strained and not good sleep, but what else is new?]

[ Good rats then. And Martin does love mice so ... that's close enough.

He winds up totally relaxed by morning, arms still curled protectively around Bruno. The floor is not ideal, but having someone in his arms? That helped Martin get decent sleep, at least. He's still asleep whenever Bruno wakes up. ]

[And Martin is much softer and warmer than his box-bed he's slept on for so many years. He only wakes up when he starts to hear the family getting food together.]

Mm?

[ Martin shifts too then, eyes still closed as he reaches a gentle hand up to caress Bruno's hair. Presses a kiss to his forehead. ]

Morning, dear.

[That-

He stills at that, breath stopping. Before he sllllowly turns to look up.]

Hm?

[ He opens his eyes -

And freezes, immediately going pink. ]

-- Shit! Sorry! I thought - god, I always sleep with my husband like this -

I-it's okay, it's all right! Just a little confused for a second, but it's all right.

S-still, I'm so sorry, god -

[ He gently starts disentangling himself from Bruno, face red. ]

[He'll help disentangle, but even when Martin's pulled away, he's... Cold. Bruno rubs at his arm a little, feeling very small suddenly.]

I, uh. I-i'm not mad or anything, just.

[How does he say he's never had anyone hold him in his sleep before without actually saying he's never had anyone hold him in his sleep before and it was nice?]

[ Martin looks him over at the gesture, still very pink. Rather cool himself now without someone there. ]

J-just surprised?

Yeah. Surprised.

... And. Ah.

Am I the first person to hold you like that since you left?

...You're the. The first person to ever hold me like that. Not since Abuela said I was too big.

[ Oh. Oh no. God, why is every new piece of information always a new heartbreak. Martin just aches looking at him. ]

Then I'm glad I did it.

[ He offers an arm again? ]

[He doesn't look for a second, but then does when he hears the quiet. His breath catches.]

I-i shouldn't, you got your husband, and you know, i-I'm uh. I'm me, so.

My husband will completely understand.

[ He waves his hand a bit, beckoning. ]

[There's the smallest noise of "unsure" in his throat as he looks around, hears the quiet whispers of breakfast gathering happening. Then takes a deep breath and slowly climbs back into that arm.]

[ Good. Good. Martin gathers him up again, then, tucking Bruno's head gently underneath his chin. ]

Much better.

And this is just... Something you do?

[Holding, being close like this. He has so little frame of reference from watching his sisters and their husbands.]

All the time. Whenever we feel like it? Whenever I can get away with it.

Hm.

Lucky guy.

We are both very lucky.

[ He leans his cheek down against the top of Bruno's head. ]
